The new plants
In November 2025 the Ministry of Energy signed concessions with a consortium led by Qatar's UCC Holding for four gas-fired plants and 1,000 MW of solar, with a build time of about three and a half years.

Capacity, then and now
Before 2011 Syria had about 10,000 MW installed and power almost around the clock. War damage and fuel shortages cut what the grid could deliver to a fraction of that. Capacity is climbing again as gas imports resume and plants are repaired, but demand is still far ahead of supply.
Where the opportunities are
Almost every part of the system needs investment, from power stations to the cables that reach homes and factories. Much of the work comes through state tenders and concessions.
Who you will deal with
The sector was reorganised in 2025 and 2026. Knowing which body issues a tender, signs a concession or grants a licence saves months.
The road back
Since 2025, fuel has started to flow again, tariffs have been reset and the largest power contracts in over a decade have been signed.
